Given the sheer volume of shipping retailers do, it’s not unusual to receive an email from a freight company regarding an errant package. The past few weeks, however, there’s been a scam email floating around, sent from what appears to be a legitimate DHL account (using their correct domain name after the @), but hold on…. Why does the language seem to flow a bit on the stilted, awkward side?
Because it’s fake. If you receive the following email (or similar), do NOT open the attachment: [click here to continue…]

Are you a retailer participating in The 3/50 Project? Feel like getting a little spotlight time?
I’ve received a request for photos of retail stores for use in an industry-related publication that’s running a piece about The 3/50 Project (can’t say which, but believe me…your peers, reps, and vendors will see it).
Requirements:
- Store must be actively promoting The 3/50 Project
- Color photos, high res (600 dpi preferred, but 300 dpi *might* be usable)
- Photos to include something from the Project (ex: store window with the banner…front counter with the framed counter top sign, etc.)
- People! Photos with no one in them are depressing….
Deadline: ASAP (translated: This Friday, 10.16.09)
Send them to: great_ideas@the350project.net
Subject line: PHOTOS
If the photos are taken by a professional photographer, also include their name for attribution (and ASK if it’s okay to publish the shots!).
Now…let’s go get you some ink.
For those who missed the Sunday Washington Post, here’s a great article about Manassas, Virginia and their efforts to keep The 3/50 Project message alive. Well done!
(FYI: Please keep in mind when promoting the Project that any materials using our name or logo…as in buttons…needs to be approved prior to production, since the logo and content are covered by registered TM and ©. Definitely want to keep you out of boiling oil….Thanks!)
Is it just me, or does it seem inconceivable that a major market’s NBC affiliate would run a story about The 3/50 Project on their 5:00 news, but only allow me to see the video if I pay their monitoring service $160?
Yup. True. And yes, I’m peeved.
Let’s face it. The customer is only right 98% of the time. The other 2% of the time, they’re…well…nuts. Like the one who put a whole new spin on “exchange request” when I still operated a stationery store.
The following is a true story, I swear: [click here to continue…]

To everyone’s relief, the venerable Mrs. John L. Strong has been purchased out of bankruptcy. Long seen as the creme de la creme of social stationers, the Manhattan institution has provided bespoke papers to everyone from royals to rascals over the decades. When filing chapter 11 in August, a collective gasp could be heard from coast to coast in the paper industry; after all, if Mrs. Strong could stumble, well…no one was safe. [click here to continue…]
