in Markets, New York, NSS

nss_2009_logoWell the National Stationery Show’s done and the load out underway. From all accounts, it was a rousing success. Here are a few notes from my stroll down the aisles: [click here to continue…]

3-50-project-logo_500px2The folks at George Little Management are rock stars in my book. Thanks to the generosity of Patti Stracher and her staff, anyone and everyone who wants to attend The 3/50 Project Seminar on Monday can, whether they’re attending NSS/Surtex or not.

It’s free…no charge…just show up and you’re in the door.

Monday, May 18, 2009
2:00 p.m.
Javits Convention Center
Room 1C02/03 (lower level)

There’s going to be at least one major news outlet there (read: national), which means a good chance a few participants in The 3/50 Project will be interviewed. Might be your shot at some pretty nice limelight!

nss_2009_logoIt’s not uncommon to find a sky high stack of messages demanding attention in my inbox since email access has sporadic during my stay in Hong Kong. Today’s 300+ messages squealing “Read me! Read me!” came as no great surprise; three particular vendor emails, however, did (surprise me, that is–not literally squeal). They each asked if I would please promote specials being offered this spring-—something I routinely do in Shopping List posts.

What makes these three vendors unique is that none of them intend to exhibit at the upcoming National Stationery Show. Instead, they’ve asked if I would post their specials to offset their absence in May.

My response? Um…no. [click here to continue…]

It won’t be the top of the Empire State Building, but we’re having a little lovefest in New York next month for fans of The 3/50 Project. Thanks to the generosity of George Little Management, this first time gathering of retailers from across the country will focus not only on what The 3/50 Project is all about, but will include examples of how other businesses have promoted the movement, with success.

Whether you’re new to the idea, or one of our early adopters, I hope you’ll join us.

Date: Monday, May 18, 2009, during the National Stationery Show
Time: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Room 1C02/03 (lower level)
Admission: Free, but must have a show badge or be a credentialed member of the press
Registration: Required (click here to sign up)

Kate’s cancels vendor appointments

by Cinda Baxter on March 14, 2009

in New York, Real World, Retail

kates_signSeveral emails have landed on my desk the past few days asking if I knew what was going on with Kate’s Paperie. According to first hand sources, vendor appointments were cancelled last week, many without prior notice…even for those coming in from out of state. The reason given was the sudden departure of President Hans Parrado (previously Sales Manager for the multi-store retailer). [click here to continue…]

Vendors see NSS as a “must”

by Cinda Baxter on February 10, 2009

in Markets, New York, Stationery

nss_2009_logoAs you know, there was a lot of discussion on Friday about participation in the National Stationery Show, including one on LinkedIn. Some pretty solid wisdom was shared, including the following:

Recap: NYIGF

by Cinda Baxter on January 28, 2009

in Economy, Market, New York

nyigf-logoThe winter show season is an endurance race. Unlike the summer circuit that spans two months, the winter circuit jams everything into four weeks-—this year, the biggest shows piled into only 21 days. It’s not hard to see the wear and tear on faces of vendors who attend all the biggies; it’s even easier to hear the exhaustion in what they say. [click here to continue…]
