valentine_landing_imageHave you mailed your Valentines to the major media outlets yet? You know…the one reminding them that small businesses have big hearts, and that The 3/50 Project would love, love, love a little airtime on their morning programs.

If you haven’t, scurry right over to The 3/50 Project website asap, and join the Valentine Campaign. All those consumer eyeballs in the morning are hungry for a little small business joy, after all.

radio_microphone_antiqueYesterday morning, Jim Blasingame rolled out the red carpet for The 3/50 Project again, on his nationally syndicated radio program The Small Business Advocate. As always, he’s proven what a true believer he is in independent, locally owned businesses, fully committed to better educating their owners on how to succeed.

If you missed it, no sweat. Jim keeps a copy on his server so you can listen later.

As a bonus, the piece ran on Forbes.com too (yes, I’m dancing around the room as I say that).

Thanks, as always, to Jim for being such a wonderful champion of small business. I suggest everyone take a moment to peruse the other recordings provided on his site, then tune in regularly to this terrific program.

giftsanddecA big, honkin’ high five to the editors of Gifts and Decorative Accessories Magazine (who I’m a contributing editor for, by the way). Unbeknownst to me until opening the January issue, they posed the following question on this month’s We Ask page:

“Is your store participating in any ‘buy local’ programs or The 3/50 Project?”

And yes, my heart sang when reading comments by both Steven Lora (Motif Modern Living, Austin and San Antonio, TX) and Elizabeth Howard (The Cordial Cricket, Chester, VA), who are Supporters of The 3/50 Project. I adore what Elizabeth wrote; to see her response, or to chime in yourself, click here.

Thanks to everyone connected to the page. Every voice out there counts!

in Media, The 3/50 Project

radio_microphone_antiqueHeads up, all you wonderful folks in western Pennsylvania-—I’m being interviewed on WISR-AM (680 on your dial) about The 3/50 Project tomorrow afternoon.

Tune in at 1:00 p.m. EST to get the scoop on what we’re up to, or, if you’re outside the immediate broadcast area, check out the live feed on the WISR website.

Note: To listen, it appears you need to save the live feed file to your desktop, then open it in iTunes. I had trouble getting any sound when testing this out, but hopefully, you’ll have better luck.

Looking for the worst in people? Really?

child_head_downI was actually beginning to write a rave review of a segment that aired on the Today Show a few moments ago…until I heard the tease for the following segment. In under 30 seconds, a heartfelt thumbs up turned to a pronounced thumbs down. [click here to continue…]

Thanks to WHSV-TV (ABC) in Winchester, Virginia for introducing The 3/50 Project to their local shoppers this holiday season. Overlooking the anchor’s misquotes (calling us The “thirty fifty” Project, followed by saying it’s $50 at three businesses each), the segment’s pretty good. Steven Glazier, the field reporter, got things back on track, then asked all the right questions when interviewing local business owners.

As for why locals pump $68 of every $100 back into their community economy versus the lower $43 from chains and big boxes, well… It’s not due to payroll, as the first retailer explained in the piece–everyone pays that. The big chasm comes from associated business expenditures and how post-payroll, post-tax revenue is handled at the end of the day. Truth be told, I think the gap is larger, but the fine folks at Civic Economics who research such things provide the 68/43 figures we rely on.

Get out there and spread the word, folks. There are still a lot of shopping days between now and Christmas…and a whole lot more than follow December 25th.

aol_small_bizWhat’s the hot topic this holiday season? Local, independent brick and mortar businesses–how they’re faring, and why they’re important.

Oh yeah. And who supports them (enter: The 3/50 Project).

Check out the article that ran on AOL Small Business yesterday. Pretty great stuff, with lots of positive juice. Sweeeeeet!
