Another PayPal scam

For those of you who use a business PayPal account, heads up: There’s another scam floating around via email.

.

This one arrives in your inbox as a warning that someone from a foreign IP address has tried to access your account. The email asks you to click the link to be taken to your PayPal login so you can verify who you are. The problem? That link doesn’t go to PayPal, but instead sends you to a spoof site that just looks like the real thing. Scammers are banking on you entering your account info so they’ll be able to whirl around, immediately log into your account, and access your finances while appearing to be you the entire time.

The first hint this was a fake? Well…since when does PayPal send messages from a Gmail email address….? Never.

Any time you get a “please verify your account” message, regardless of who it is (the electric company, the phone company, YOUR BANK, etc.) don’t click the link. Instead, open a new browser window, log into the company’s website the way you always have, and check your account there. Walking in through any other entry only leads you down a dark hall with loads of trap doors.
