Ten reasons it’s great to be an independent retailer

thumbs_up1. You don’t work for [insert: name of a financial institution], who most of the public distrusts despises hates wants to see on a skewer over raging flames.

2. You’re part of the solution-—not the problem-—where the economy is concerned.

3. You have the ability to make adjustments to your business on a moment’s notice without waiting for board approval or risking corporate pushback.

4. Your customers not only know you by sight, but know you by name…and care about you personally.

5. You won’t find a pink slip in your inbox.

6. You have the freedom to set the tone for your employees, not be subject to the tone of the guy in the next cubicle.

7. If a customer asks how business is, you can respond “Unbelievable!’ with complete sincerity.

8. This is one year your accountant won’t accuse you of over-ordering.

9. Every vendor you order from will sincerely be happy you did…and might actually show it.

10. Odds are better for independent retailers than they are for big boxes…finally.

Cinda,
I can identify with each one! Thanks for the upbeat blog today…I really need some positive thinking.

You are right on target with every one of these! Thanks for reminding me why I have a store instead of working for someone else.

I’m going to hug each of my employees today (right after we finish the window display) since they need to feel good too. Thanks for being there to support us 24/7, Cinda! Indie storefronts need you!
