in Media, The 3/50 Project

todayOkay folks. Time to fire up the group engine and make something happen. It’s time to get The 3/50 Project on The Today Show.

And all it’s going to take is an envelope, a flyer, a post it note, and a stamp.

While watching this morning’s edition of the Today Show, I saw a piece about the University of California at Merced (where?) getting Michelle Obama as their graduation speaker. How’d they snag her? By pummeling her with letters and Valentines, each asking her to come.

It worked.

So why not try the same thing with the Today Show, asking them to do a feature about The 3/50 Project? I’m not necessarily saying you need to dig Valentines cards out of your stock room (unless, of course, you want to). But I do recognize the power a mailbox may have on our movement to reach consumers nationwide.

Thus far, the trade magazines have been terrific about helping to get the word out about The 3/50 Project. Bloggers have picked this up, as has Twitter.

But where’s the general public come in? After all, they’re the key to all of this.

Well folks, time for us to go get ‘em. Here’s what I’m asking you to do:

1. Print out one copy of the flyer
2. Slap a post it note on it (or a letter or note around it, if you’re so inspired) telling The Today Show producers why they need to put The 3/50 Project on the show.
3. Mail it to:

Noah Kotch
Senior Producer
379E-1
30 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, NY 10112

Yes, this is grass roots kind of stuff, but grass roots count for a lot. Let’s see if we can’t bury the mailbox with requests to get this on the air.

Need a refresher course about how we got this far? Just type “3/50” in the search box to the right. You’ll see the posts referring to it, charting out our history.

In addition to the letter (which I do think makes a statement, since letters are so rare these days), you can also shoot the Today Show an email:

TODAY@nbcuni.com

Granted, they get a zillion a day, but adding this to the mail campaign can’t hurt.

Please pass this request along to anyone and everyone you know. The more, the better.

I did as you asked, and sent a copy of the 3/50 Project to the Today Show. Being a small business I will do anything to help get the word out there that people need to support the local small businesses, especially during this tough economic time! We live it everyday, and don’t want to be forced to close our doors like many other stores have had to do. Thank you for getting this project out. I think it is incredible and I hand out the flyers to all our customers.

Best Wishes,
Chelsea

I just returned from the High Point Market which is a huge industry trade show. Attendance was horrible. The attidude was if there are no consumers buying, then why do I need to place market orders. A perfect example of how we are all interconnected on the “food chain”. The 3/50 consept is simple and it will work if more and more individuals learn of this through media and television discusssions like a Lou Dobbs. I read about this idea in Home Accents Today magazine that I pick-up when I was in Hight Point. Every one needs to get on board in pushing this with friends, family and any connection that we have personally with media individuals. Let’s get out there and beat the drums.
