Last chance to update with The 3/50 Project

in The 3/50 Project

6.16.11 Editor’s note: Based on the sheer volume of panicked emails from folks who kept putting this off (now “up against the clock” as a result), we’re going to leave the update link up for two more days—through the end of the day Friday. After that, though, it’s gone, since the server time is being comp’d by a local brick and mortar whose gracious welcome is something we don’t want to overstep.

Today’s Friday June 17th is the day–last chance to update your business info with The 3/50 Project! Three emails were sent to more than 15,000 businesses over the past three weeks, asking them to update their info with us before the deadline.

Not all businesses were sent update emails—only those in the left hand columns on our Supporter pages who registered before February 20, 2011. If your business appears there, and you registered before February 20th of this year, please check your spam folder…quickly…or you’ll miss out.

Since no one can “program around” the unique combination of computer/browser/plugins/operating system each user owns, a small number of folks might run into hiccups logging into the update form. Rest assured, everyone who initially got stuck was able to log in successfully using the following tips:

1. Rather than type the ID and password, use copy/paste to avoid typos.

2. If you’re using copy/paste, be sure NOT to accidentally include a blank space, since the login sees that as another letter.

3. Copy/paste didn’t work? Try carefully typing in the ID and password. Oddly, some computers/browsers/plugin combinations mess with copy/paste.

4. If you’re manually typing, be sure NOT to accidentally type a space at the end of the ID or password—you’d be amazed at how many folks do that. The login sees blank spaces as letters, which, as in tip #2, prevents you from getting in.

5. A  number of folks have reported that using a different browser helped—what works for one person’s ID/password combo doesn’t work for the next person. Weird, but true.

6. If that doesn’t work, try each of these steps on a different computer. As noted above, it’s impossible for anyone to predict the unique combination of computer/browser/plugins/OS that controls this stuff.

Since a few of the items on the update form are permission based, we can’t fill in a form on someone’s behalf—has to be you filling it out. If you’re having trouble getting in, please don’t give up. Thousands ahead of you logged in without delays or problems…the login definitely works.

Big things ahead…!

P.S. The note on the login page regarding “too many users” is outdated, so please ignore it. We moved to a new system two weeks ago, which completely alleviated the issue…just didn’t get the unnecessary note removed (doing so means rebooting the server, which knocks people off, which we don’t want to do).

I am not a business but would like to help put the word out by sharing on fb and learn more about you.

We have your postcards in our Vero Beach store and you’re part of my “Likes” on my personal Facebook page. What is your “database”? Are there regular business members? Local groups? We are part of the (Vero Beach, FL) Oceanside Business Asso., but they don’t do much to promote this. How do we add you to our Business Facebook page or put information about the project on the page? do you have a 8 x 11 poster I could print out for our store? How do I get more postcards?

We are free monthly publication. We have posted several messages about 350 project over the last year. We’ve never found a place to join but we were able to download an ad or two.

Editor’s Note: We’d love to have you join–just click the Jump In tab at the top of the site pages, scroll down to “Other Supporters,” and let ‘er rip!

Lost the e-mail with the id & password. Can it be resent?

Editor’s note: The email was actually sent to each respondent three different times over the past three week period. Once we hit the response deadline (this past week), the online form went away. Please stay tuned to the blog and our FB page for info about options that should become available in early July if you weren’t able to update in time.

I’ve tried updating my business every day since I got the e-,mail. I’ve tried each suggestion mentioned above as well as using my iPhone. I still get the “incorrect login” notice. It’s ironic because I even got our city council on board with the 3/50 project and handed out hundreds of flyers. All 3/50 project posters are hanging on my business’s walls. Looks like Sugar Magnolia will no longer be listed though.

Editor’s note: I’m not surprized it wouldn’t work on an iPhone, as the update form was never intended to be a mobile application. Sugar Magnolia will continue to be listed, in spite of you not updating–that doesn’t go away. You’ll simply miss out on the launch of the next big thing coming in a couple of weeks.

For those who didn’t update before the three week deadline, we’ll have a solution later on, down the road. For now, we’re into stage two of the updates process. Please stay tuned for announcements regarding the topic sometime in early July.

Hi Ron,

Most (about 90%) of your questions can be answered by visiting The350Project.net. There, you’ll find all the info about posters, postcards, our members, etc. (not sure what you mean by “regular business,” but we do list all types of supporting businesses on our site.

As for Facebook, if you visit our page (facebook.com/the350project), then click on “Photos” in the left column, you’ll find several images that can be used on your own business or group page (please do *not* use the two in our “Profile Pictures” folder though, since those are for our own official use only).

Regarding the postcard you currently have in your store, and would like to get more of, those would have been printed locally by someone in your community–we offer the downloadable press-ready files on our website, but don’t have the overhead to actually put them into production. Hmmm…maybe worth asking around with neighboring businesses to see who knows where they came from.

And–last one–we’re planning “local chapters,” but keep running into hiccups due to our many federal and state trademarks and copyrights. Want to be sure we do this right, since the brand is our most valuable asset. Stay tuned to our FB page for updates and info.

Cinda
