Yet again, TwitMe is broken. Great.

in Social Media, Technology

I’ve had it. As someone with real time constraints to contend with, I rely heavily on WordPress plugins to relay my blog posts to the rest of the social media world, especially to Twitter, who made some changes to how they handle API calls a couple of months ago (sorry if I just techno-leaped over a couple of heads there with the geek speak).

I just found out that TwitMe, the WordPress plugin I’ve been using for over a year, claims to be functional, but apparently hasn’t sent anything to my Twitter feed in weeks. When I run a test, all I get is an unhelpful error message telling me the tweets are unsuccessful, with no explanation why. (Yes, I’ve confirmed my login info is correct, etc. etc. etc.).

WP to Twitter, my backup option, hasn’t worked consistently since day one (which explains “backup option” as opposed to “primary plugin”).

TwitterPost, my backup-backup option, no longer exists, since Twitter’s API changes. But they’ve launched a replacement option called leenk.me—that you have to pay for—as an alternative.

So today, I gave up and popped for leenk.me, in hopes this will, once and for all, resolve this crazy mess. Paid for one year of service (which still blows my mind), then set up the account, only to find, after paying, that the plugin doesn’t shorten URLs (you know…like every other WP>Twitter plugin on earth). They don’t tell you that up front; you don’t find out until after activating the plugin with your purchased API key. Since tweets are limited to 140 characters, well…that pretty much means none of mine will post accurately unless I completely remove the title, which then makes my tweets look like spam.

Grrrrrrrreat.

(Sure, leenk.me offers the first 30 days for free, but you still have to pay for the service up front to get the free month. Not cool.)

Anyone out there a WordPress expert who knows of a decent, functional, reliable WP-to-Twitter plugin that actually works? I’m at the end of my rope on this one, having been through about a half dozen miserable disappointments.

Thanks guys; much appreciated!
