The 3/50 Project

Pay us $160 and we‘ll let you see it….

in Media, The 3/50 Project

Is it just me, or does it seem inconceivable that a major market’s NBC affiliate would run a story about The 3/50 Project on their 5:00 news, but only allow me to see the video if I pay their monitoring service $160?

Yup. True. And yes, I’m peeved.

in Media, The 3/50 Project

The 3/50 Project is having a reeeeally good media week!

Next up is NBC affiliate KSDK-TV in Saint Louis. I love how in depth they went with the business owners; really puts a face on our cause.

Thanks to all you lovely brick and mortars out there under the Arch; we’re with you in spirit…so to speak.

Thanks to our friends in Great Falls, Montana at KFBB-TV (ABC) for reporting on The 3/50 Project last night. You did us proud, and did a great job of showcasing what makes the movement unique and special.

An additional high five to Dave Campbell, owner of Amazing Toys, who not only got his store name out there, but graciously plugged another local business, Planet Earth. That’s the kind of heart that makes my own sing.

Well done, folks!

Note: For some reason, I have trouble getting the video to play in Firefox, but have no issues in Safari. If you’re stuck in park too, try an alternate browser. Odd.

Lunch with Kasey Cronquist (Exec Director, California Cut Flowers Commission) and Lane DeVries (Pres/CEO, The Sun Valley Group)

The past couple of days, I’ve been in sunny Phoenix, at the Society of American Florists annual conference where I delivered the keynote address. This year’s gathering was particularly special in that it marks the organization’s 125th year-—pretty impressive.

I was equally impressed by the people who filled the room yesterday morning, then took time out of their busy schedules to visit with me in the halls and share stories of what’s most important to them these days. Lunch was particularly fascinating, spent with a group that included a northern California retailer, distributors, and two gentlemen involved in the California Cut Flowers Commission, from whom I learned just how closely intertwined we all are. KDAF-TV in Dallas covers The 3/50 Project

A big high five to the folks at KDAF-TV in Dallas for the great piece about The 3/50 Project. Every voice out there counts!

For those of you wondering what brochure the reporter is talking about at the end of the piece, that’s actually the bookmark, available on the Resources page of our site. They print 3-up on 8.5 x 11 card stock, and are perfect for adding your store name, address, hours, etc. to the back.

And to the Bishop Arts District retailers: You’ve got a seriously neat gem on your hands. Here’s hoping that more of your neighbors hear about the Project, jump on board, and keep the brick and mortar love flowing…. Thanks for all you do, day in and day out!

Google drops the ball (again)

in Google, The 3/50 Project

google_oops

Please know that my heart is at a full stop when I say this: Google Docs are screwed up yet again.

For the second time in a month, their forms and spreadsheet service is malfunctioning, vaporizing completed forms after the fact. What does that mean in street terms? You fill out an online form, click the “submit” button, and assume the company on other end has received your info. What’s happening instead? That info disappears once you click the button…and no one on either end of the transaction knows it until it’s too late.

To my horror, the “vaporizing” process has reached out and touched The 3/50 Project yet again, wiping out all Other Brick and Mortar Businesses registrations dating back to September 1st. The others forms on the site are fine–only the second category on our Jump In page has been affected. [click here to continue…]

in The 3/50 Project

DGenovese,GMoore,CWT,BJensen,CBaxter,EBessJust a quick note to thank the fine folks of Darien, Connecticut for a warm welcome while I was there to speak about The 3/50 Project. At dinner afterward, a number of business owners and community leaders shared their thoughts and experiences about today’s marketplace and the direction our economy is headed. As a whole, we agreed that the worst is behind us, but only those willing to buckle down and get creative will come through this in flying colors. [click here to continue…]

Betsy Swango and Susan Foxworth are arguably two of the most respected stationery and gift retailers in the country, both by consumers and suppliers. Their store, Write Selection, consistently ranks among the top accounts with numerous vendors; you’d be hard pressed to find retailers who are more responsible, honest, and high integrity than these two.

Yet even they have had to deal with the same bone crushing slow months everyone else has. No one is immune. [click here to continue…]
