by Cinda Baxter on April 22, 2009

in Real World

torn_10_dollar_billYikes. One of the nation’s largest mall operators filed Chapter 11 in New York this week, after failing to restructure more than $25 billion in outstanding debt. General Growth Properties, based in Chicago, has pretty far reaching tentacles. Just search their property listings by state to see what I mean.

The economy did NOT just get worse

fingers_crossedOnce again, it’s time for the Perspective Posse to saddle up.

According to at least one major network, “New numbers out this morning confirm this recession is getting worse,” based on a report by RealtyTrack that is “showing a 24% jump in the first quarter of the year in the number of households receiving at least one foreclosure notice.”

Now…before you feel the floor drop out, let’s look at the rest of the story, because the headline most certainly does not tell it all: [click here to continue…]

flipnotes1For those of you who, like me, are die hard Flip Note fans, you’re gonna love this. For those of you scratching your head, wondering what the heck a Flip Note is, well…catch up. They’re just about the handiest little gadgets in the world for jotting a quick note on the fly.

Turns out the Flip Note Fan site is running a contest where five lucky winners will not only receive a new Flip Note for free, but….will get to create a custom design for the front of it. Sweet. [click here to continue…]

10-10-10 for retailers

gumball_machineThe fast rapid meteoric holy-cow-what-just-happened growth of The 3/50 Project has had a couple of pretty big impacts on my life. The first and most obvious is that it’s reshuffled every single priority on my desk (which was a tad bit crowded to begin with). The second isn’t quite as obvious; it’s the constant tape running in the back of mind asking “What comes next? Where are you going to take this thing?”

Admittedly, I hit the pause button a lot on that tape while navigating a constant stream of emails (half of which contain ASAP requests), juggling two phones, and working long distance with Gregg on the database. Every so often though, someone pops up and asks “Cinda, what comes next?“ which gets those back brain wheels spinning again. [click here to continue…]

Yes, I feel like a DORK.

Please note that there’s a typo in The 3/50 Project flyer and web panel. The corrected versions are available through the Resources page on the site.

Mea culpa, big time.

Next stop: KARE-TV, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis.

The 3/50 Project has been hopping here in the Twin Cities. Yesterday started with a piece on the front page of the St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper…then an interview with Minnesota Public Radio…immediately followed by taping the segment for KARE‘s 10:00 p.m. news (top of the hour, second story, thankyouverymuch).

The 3/50 Project hits television

by Cinda Baxter on April 3, 2009

in Media, Real World, The 3/50 Project

Thanks to Bill Hudson, anchor and news reporter at WCCO TV (CBS) in Minneapolis, The 3/50 Project had its  television debut, airing on yesterday’s evening news. Gotta tell ya…the results have been pretty immediate, if the registrations count on the350project.org is any indication. In two words?

Welcome, Minnesota.

In the piece, Bill mentions the site only being up since Monday; for clarification, the full site went up that day, including the analytics code that tracks how many hits the site has had. From Monday morning through midnight Wednesday, more than 3,700 “absolute unique visitors” clocked in.

If we look at hits (ie, including repeat visits), well….let’s just say we were way past 4,200. Holy cow.

PayPal wants to hang on to your money

by Cinda Baxter on April 1, 2009

in Finances, Real World

paypal_logoIt’s no surprise that those of us using PayPal for any kind of online billing are transferring those funds into our bank accounts with greater frequency. Why let it sit idle there when it could be safe and sound, here at home, in an interest bearing account, after all?

Odds are that the wobbly state of the economy has a lot of folks pulling incoming funds out of their internet piggy bank a bit faster these days. As in get-it-got-it-move-it faster.

Well, PayPal’s no dummy. [click here to continue…]
